07/03/2005 Monday – Daytona Beach

It was a mere 2 hours drive to Daytona Beach, infamous for the Daytona race track and supposedly spring break “festivities”. We were greeted by the thunderous roars of Harley Davison’s swarming the area as it was “Bike Week”. It was so cool…seeing all these folks in biker gear, without helmets and all riding mean ass bikes.

We parked by Wendy’s for lunch after finding out that we could only check in at 3pm. After which, we bade goodbye to Taka and Floriaan who left for Key West. Anyway, we changed, played Frisbee at the carpark in our hotel, flicking the Frisbee at a few cars, fortunately without any owners complaining. We headed for the beach too, saw buggies, beach combers, seagulls, college students getting tans…it was great sunny weather, a wonderful respite from the freaking cold in State College. We played beach volleyball, captain’s ball, soccer.. A couple of American dudes joined in too. After a while, 2 girls from state college befriended us, and invited us to join them at the nearby beach volleyball court.

My gosh, the group was huge…more than 40 people, who were all playing beach volleyball…..we made friends too. (we eventually found out why they were so friendly, they were a Christian group who were seeking to convert us....hmm….)

We checked in only at 4.30…only to find out that my room lights were not working, that there was a leftover underwear in the toilet…terrible. What’s worse was that it was a king sized bed. Thus the girls had to contend with sleeping there…but they eventually gave up…and the Singapore girls came over to bunk in with the guys. So we practically dismantled the bed into 2, shifted the furniture and voila, 7 folks squeezed into my room.

We took a drive to the market area, parked, strolled down the street which were crawling with Bikers and their own flea market of sorts in conjunction with the Bikers Week. We ate crappy food that cost us $7, beef with rice…horrible.

Sharon gladly provided the Raspberry vodka, and Fai provided the Malibu….haha. Come on….we’re university students…apart from drinking what do you expect us to do? Study?

I had an early night…was really tired and sick…
